Getting Fry into a Fry Saver

I've got a spawn of peppermints that left the cave about a week ago but it seems the adults eat all the zucchini too fast for the fry. I only ever see a few fry eating the zucchini at once then in the morning its all gone to the adults. Some of the fry are looking a little on the skinny side so I'm wondering what would be the best method to gather the fry up to put them in a fry saver to make sure they get food all the time.

Also what is the best method to get fry into a fry saver for my next spawn. Is it just to tip them in from the cave a couple of days after they hatch? I used to put my cave male and all into a fry saver when i used to breed albino BN but im not sure if my peppermint male will be so cooperative.

suck em up in a syphon hose and put fry saver in a bucket and suck em straight into a frysaver

sucking them up like that wont hurt them?

no it dosnt hurt them at all, as long as the hose is big enough and they do not get stuck, it should be fine. good luck cheers jk :thumbup:

Okay thanks . I finished building my fry saver this afternoon so i'll gather them all up tomorrow.

i siphon out 46 fry and 260 fry and anything else that is too hard to net

royal whiptail fry are the main siphoners

with some fry if they hang on the wood, I can put a big net under the wood as i slowly lift it out of the water and the young drop ínto the net as it leaves the water.

I take almost everything out of the tanks and hunt down the fry one by one with a net. It is a real pain in the a**, but it has to be done on a regular basis or the tanks get overcrowded. Typically, fry grows faster in the tank than in a fry saver. For slow growing plecos I tend to leave them with the adults. Fast growing ones like most Ancistrus, L66, L333, L134, L129, L340 they go to fry growout tank instead.

I leave my l002 in main tank with parents and they do well , then I lift up some wood grab a handful and put in my four foot to grow bigger I'm currently using a fry saver for some l144 lf fry tho, those things are hard to keep alive
