Hi there everyone, just bought 5 L134 plecos from Pier Aquatics in Wigan 2 males and 3 females hoping to get them breeding, any tips would be fantastic you can never have enough knowlage, and i will keep you posted if i do get any results
Very nice fish that I almost gave up trying to spawn. Not really sure what set mine off but I had tried everything and failed and then after leaving them alone for a week they bred:dk:
IMO these were more of a challenge to spawn than hypans
Thanks Thegeeman they were a good read, sounds like i could be in for a long wait but it will be worth it in the end this is the first ever atempt at breeding so hope it all goes well, got 15 sterbai corys in the tank also maybe they will spawn for me, they have done in the past but i had clown loaches in there also and they ate the eggs maybe a couple of months and my tank could of become a nursery
lets hope so Rob.
i think L134 are one of the prettiest small plecs around, wish i never had to move my group on, sods law after i sold them though, they bred lol.
i couldn't seem to trigger them either but i guess they would have done when they were ready
Well it may take some time yet for them to breed but i will definatly keep you all posted if i see any signs of breeding or if there is any young, quite happy at the moment seeing a good sized group of 5 in the tank for the time being. And if i do breed there will be young for people to have if wanted
First you have to be sure they are old enough and quite ready. Two to three years old and girlies with nice fat bellies. Mine were approx 9cm before they bred.
Second start swapping a little bit of their high veg foods for a mix of a bit more meaty food.
Increase filtration to a bit higher flow and do cooler water changes. Just the regular 20-25% per week is enough.
Make sure there is good cover over and around the males caves. The females hang there for days and if you go looking they get startled and buzz off.
Don't look in caves lol.
Almost forgot, that ph will have to come between 6 and 7. I put a big lump of driftwood in mine and pulled it down very nicely although it was a bit tannin leaching to the water. It cleared up after a few weeks of regular wc tho.
Ha Ha yeah maybe i did fall for it but come on ive only been on this site for 3-4 days! How did i know that you lot would be such colorful characters ha ha oh well april 1st is a good year away now thank fully.
