I just did a 40% water change with some tap water i left in containers for a day to get to room temp and within 2mins a male kept forcing a female in her cave and he has pushd and shoved for the last 30mins its been great to see :woohoo:, im scared now of disturbing them should i just leave the tank alone for a few days of continue to feed etc?? i dont want to lift the lid to feed and disturb them really.

Nice one mate. I feed and do small water changes as normal when mines are breeding and looking after eggs. As long you don't go near the cave with a torch, you should be fine.
On the other hand, I had a female trapped by different males for sometimes up to a month without any spawn. This went on for 2 years before another female successfully spawned.

Thats great news Rob, hope you get eggs :woohoo:

I also continue normal maintenance and feeding if there are others in there with them, they get used to it :D

He is still traping the female, i can see now all the hairs over hisb body quite clear, it was only 2 months ago i took a group picture of them all and i could hardly see hairs on the males, he keeps raming her ermmm... couldnt think of a better way to put that! And his rear fin is vibrating lots also hope that is a good sign.

Could it really be days or even weeks of this behaviour? All 5 females are huge and gravid so they have the eggs to do the deed. Do hope she lays soon if at all as im sure he`s biting the hell out of her

In my experience once the vibrating starts it usually means eggs  oh and longest trapping was 5 days

My male lost all his hairs in February after his last spawn and hasn't spawned since :wb:

Im sure the female is still in the cave, not that i can see into it as i re positiond all the caves to stop me peeking :) but he trys to swim into the cave every so often but cant actually fit in it so its either because he still has her traped or there is lots of eggs hummm.... im gutted that i cant see right into the cave the suspence is killing me!

I always have my caves positioned so I can see in and shine my torch in everyday to do a head count  the suspense would kill me if there was a trapping or eggs/fry and I couldn't see  fingers crossed for you Rob

well I can see in most of my caves but I dont shine a torch in. if i feel i really need to see in a cave i use a flash photo as i think this is more like lightening and so quick the fish hardly notices (unless you ake lots of pics)!
lets hope she is laying for you!

probably for the best that you cant shine a torch in.
keeping everything crossed that there are eggs in there.
