Checked the cave of my pair of L183 today and they have another batch of eggs, only a small batch like last time, I noticed the male of my wild trio is in his cave but I dont want to disturb him as it means moving bogwood to get at the cave. I have been taking photos of the fry but when I download them on to my PC the quality is rubbish. I will have to catch up with technology and get rid of my 1.3 camera and get a decent one. I reckon there must be about 50 fry in the trios tank.

In the house of gee
You need to do a log on this Billyjimbo:yes:. I would love to know what you are doing to spawn them with ease. It nearly killed me trying to get mine to spawn

Hi Gee, I am not doing anything special, I have kept tropicals off and on for about 40 years and have always worked on the idea that if it aint broke dont fix it so I only do maintenance on my tanks when I think it is neccessary ie when the snails come up to the top of the glass or the fish act strangely, I think I have just been incredibly lucky that both lots have spawned with very little effort on my part. I always feel that doing water changes all the time is taking something out of the tank besides the muck.

Your doing great Bill the L183s are amazing plecos :) How big are the 1st batch now?
Hi Rob, they are about an inch now, did I have them when you came here for the L260s? If you are in Runcorn again at any time call in and have a look. I have got some reds coming along nicely, they are over 2" now so should be able to sex them soon and get them set up to breed. Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill they are growing quite quick then, You had just had them spawn when i came up i got to see the nice bundle of eggs :) Are you reds the Super Red Ancistrus? I bought some of those a few weeks ago mine are just under the 2" mark now.

260s are doing great getting quite plump now, i managed to get 4 slightly bigger ones and i also aquired a wild adult male but im sure its a 411 so im going to advertise that hopefully to someone who plans to breed them.

Been looking for some 183s recently at one point every shop i went into had young now i cant find any! The caves you made also went down very well esp the smaller ones i got the 309 ancistrus love them

Hi Rob, the Reds I have were spawned by a trio of brown BNs which also throw out albinos, calicos and other weird and wonderful colours, I dont own them yet but have been offered the chance to buy them so watch this space, they usually spawn about 15 or so reds and about the same calicos and the rest are usually dark brown, light brown, albino, and grey, I say albino but they are a deep yellow so could be classed as golden.
I am hoping to get some L411s in November about 2" to 3" at the meet at Pier. My L260 have not spawned since the ones you got so I have changed the tank around and taken out all the Assassin snails after reading on here that they may be eating eggs so we shall see. Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill thats a shame the 260s havent spawend since. You will be needing more tanks at this rate just so the youngsters can grow up you had a lot of young when i came to yours as well as caves with eggs in. If you fancy my 411 i was told it was at least 8yrs old he is very hairy and also wild caught i havnt posted a pic on here yet of him but i will do very soon just so i can comfirm its a 411 but it will be avaliable as i just plan to keep 260s not the 411s.
What are you doing wiuth all your young, in the numbers your getting a local fish shop would love to buy them all im sure

The eggs have gone from the pair so I assume they have eaten them, the male is back in the cave so they may have another go, the eggs from the trio have hatched though and are looking good in the cave so far.
