I am really considering getting some L201 to try and spawn. What is a good male:female ratio? Where is a good place to find them to order? Also any personal experience advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all,

P.S. I'm new to this forum so I'm still learning how things work, and I know this is the correct forum to be asking this question but where can I post pics of my Plecos?

:welcome: and glad that you asked. The usual ration is 1M to 2-3F. Make sure you have sufficient caves, rock and wood for the male to find a good cave to spawn into. I would place a piece of slate over the cave itself. This makes the male feel more secure and protected. Diet is omnivore so give it a protein based diet. Heat about 27-29C. Some water flow, sand as bottom cover and an airstone for additional air. I would also add a school of 20 rummy nose or cardinal tetras, as they can tolerate the warmer water. For the USA I would place a WTB add in the section for US resident and thus you have a tank ready to breed. Remember, dependig on size of the Ls, but at about 7-9cm they should be semi mature and ready to breed. good luck and be patient. cheers jk

Don't get stuck with just L201. You should check out, Hypancistrus contradens, L102 Hypancistrus inspector, and LDA33. Obviously, L201 is the smallest and LDA33 is the largest. Otherwise, they are all easy to keep plecos that are not too critical with water parameters.

Thanks! I have looked into those other Plecos but right now I only have a 3ft tank setup for Plecos so I think the 201's will be my best bet, atleast until I move all my trimac fry to a bigger tank then I will have a 4ft tank as well

Thanks bigbird! That was just the info I was looking for. I have been keeping and raising l144 species for a few years, but I was really interested in a new species something a little more of a challenge, but I have nothing local to get my hands on any species other than 144's but I started doing some research and this forum has helped me a ton. Now I have a fairly nice setup on my plec tank and I am ready to try something new :)
