Are the fry devolped now before dying, ie, three weeks old and leaving the cave to look for food, or are they still dying at the one to two week old devolpment stage.
Just trying to see if the fry were a bit older before dying this time ?

The thing i find with the fry deaths i have had, it is usually ended up with something to do with feeding (different reasons), and not just plec fry deaths, fry not devolping fully and dying, is more tricky.

I find it hard to believe it is really water quality, as i don't think the adults would breed if the water wasn't alright.
Try some Underworld Polyfilter in a internal filter, it was something i was told a while back, it cleans up the water well and is good for emergencies, but it is costly and you will also need a spare internal filter to put it in.
Small Piece Of Underworld Polyfilter On Ebay
Cut the Polyfilter up into the size of the two filters pads a Fluval 2 internal uses, put the polyfilter in the Fluval 2 instead of the normal pads, and run it in the tank.
It will be a good test with the batch of eggs the male currently has, as the Polyfilter will remove any pollutants from the tank if there is any, and it will let you rule out that something is wrong with your water quality.

Is the TDS of the water you are using for water changes the same as the tank water now, meaning there is no change in TDS when doing a water change, and are you pre heating the new water to near the tanks water temperature ?

Hi yes im pre-heating the water used for water change I have today done a full change of filters in the HMA unit and the water coming out of it is almost the same as my tap water now???? was a faulty filter in the HMA unit causing the TDS to change? I had some polyfilter so that is now in place. The fry never make it passed a day so they are in the early devolpment stage when they die and that's in a cave or egg tumbler!!! As i have a male L333 sitting with eggs I will let you know what happens with this batch!!

I don't know how your HMA filters was dropping your TDS, but i'm glad it's sorted now.

Sorry Graham, i am still not sure what stage they are dying at, a day or two old and they would be a devolping egg, that would fungus and the male would kick out of the cave.
Here is a link to McEve's article on L46; McEve's Article
It is a good article and shows fry devolpment well, and it is also a good guide for breeding all hypancistrus.
How old in days are the fry when they die ?

Remember to add a couple of Indian Almond leaves to the tank, they will only help.

Hi all,
The TDS meters look very good value now. They should all be all right but you need a "low range" one that says something like:
Measurement range: 0~1999 ppm [parts per million] or mg/l [milligrams per litre]
cheers Darrel
