After I year of trying & giving up My L260 Spawned with out me knowing!!!!!
When I was cleaning the tank I poured them & the farther out of thier cave!

I caught them all and there were 14 fry with egg sacks I was so happy :D I put the fry in a 4 litre tub (Made into a floating trap) with a 100LPH pump pumping water through...

After a week they started to die! Some absorbed the yoke but the egg remained they died, they have slowly been dying & i dont know why...

I check the bodies & they are definetly eating & the water parameters havent changed

I feed once in the morning & in the evening, clearing out any uneaten food....

They are being fed crushed shrip pellets, crushed earth worm pellets & crushed flake.....

I do a 15% water change every 3 days

I only have 4 left now and im heart broken

Any ideas guys & gals?

Thanks
Dave

A 4 litre enclosed tub?
Are you water changing it?
Have enough oxygen?
Maintaining a stable temp?
Even though the water parameters haven't changed, have you checked the TDS?

How long are you leaving the food in for?

Could they of not stayed where they were with dad?

Firstly congratulations on your 260 spawning :woohoo:

I just had my first spawn and dad managed to waft out half of his spawn slowly over a few days and I've just popped them into a floating breeding trap within the main tank so they get all the water flow etc. Mine are being fed at least twice a day with crushed spirulina and crushed tetra with frozen lobster eggs occasionally and so far other than 2 that lost their yolk sacs too early they are doing great. So not quite sure what is going on with yours other than maybe the container they are in if seperate from the main tank is not adequate :dk:

Perhaps if you describe your set up a little more peeps may be able to help

How on earth do you heat just 4L?
Sorry edited it is a floating trap with 100 LPH flowing through it

Food is left from morning till evening then evening till morning

I think i should of left them with dad but i paniced when i poured them out :dk:

dunno about all the different foods... all i use for mine as for all the hypans is baby brine.... any pleco that is a meat eater will just hoover up b.brine...

maybe its a case of the female laying some very old eggs shes been holding till she spawned...

i thinks theres way to many what ifs and possible problems to put a finger on it

well at least they spawned so will probably spawn again!
i am not sure what the floating trap looks like, (any chance of a pic)
if water freely flowing through it maybe the current is too strong and the fish tire. if not then maybe needs more fresh water, I often put an airstone in a trap (trap fixed to edge of tank) and change a few cupfulls of water in it at least once a day.

if they are big enough to be eating (ie used all of egg sack) then you can release them into the tank unless large predators in it.

It really depends on the fish. I used to get stressed if it was more than a few days but now I have hypans that spend weeks trapped before spawning where as others will be done and dusted in 1 day.

sometimes you think they are trapped all the time but i found that sometimes they feed in dead of night and then go back in cave, so I would not worry too much

how quick is your quickest hypan spawn.... one of my female 066's gets in does her bizzo and shes out within the hour....
pretty sad i watched for the whole hour !!!!! but interesting how male fertilizes the female than he backs and she backs out then she backs back in the cave and the male sorta goes half in guarding the entrance while the female lays the eggs then shes outa there and hes in there like a rat up a drain pipe.... lol....
