I had a nice surprise when I was doing my maintenance this afternoon. I found the first batch of eggs from my young L316 :D
Very surprising because the fish themselves are only just about 18 months old or even less! Average size is 7-8cm TL. Never saw the young male with a female in the cave or even saw him fanning to attract a female. I was more expecting the first eggs to be laid this summer not now :)

Here are some pictures of the fish. No pictures yet of the dad and his brood. I don't want to disturb him with his first attempt. When or if he throws out the hatchlings then I will take pictures day by day so we can all see them growing :)

Set up as it is today. The young male is the one in the light brown colored cave.

Here are some pictures of the fish when I caught them to be housed in an other part of the breeding tanks. This was a few weeks ago.

Picture of the fish in old setup few weeks ago.

I'll keep you posted on the progress of my new daddy

Hi Jacqueline, I love your caves, can you advised where you got them from, would love these in my tanks, just like the unique shape.

Were they bought online or locally?
Hi,

I've bought these caves locally, here in Holland.
I don't know about sending caves abroad :dk:

wonderful news,
hope he succeeds, first brood sometimes dont make it, but if he is still fanning thats a good sign they are fertile!

When I was feeding my plecs I suddenly saw shooting fry amongst the adults and caves. They were so fast I couldn't even suck them up with my tube.... So had to clear the slates and some wood to get at them. I caught 5 fry then I put all the decor back again. When I was back on the ground (tank is high) and had covered up the tank again I saw another fry free swimming!! I hope he can survive because I wasn't going to do the whole thing again... Disturbing the fish to much is not a great thing... He also has more than 5 fry in his cave so I find this first time attempt a very good one for him

I took a lot of pictures but non were nice and sharp :wb: Here are 3 of the best I could get tonight. I'll promise to make better pictures tomorrow!!
