well done, you must be very excited - i would be!
yes they are orange/yellow colour. if they turn cloudy then they may be infertile.
try to avoid looking in dads cave and try not to have too much disturbance around the tank. shinning a torch into the cave is a good way to spook him and he will eat the eggs.

Congrats on your spawn  and yes you did the right thing putting the loose eggs in a fry saver and making sure they have water movement over them. I like to water change on most of my tanks daily but especially the fry ones as once you start feeding the water can foul quickly so 10% daily at least sounds like a plan :D Good luck with them, hopefully you'll have fry for xmas day :woohoo:

day 2 and the eggs in the fry saver have now got a white / creamy coloured line across the middle.i have lost one of the eggs in the saver as it went a little cloudy and had what looked like a white fur around it so i took it straight out so it didnt pass anything to the other two:cry:fingers crossed no more losses.dad has still held onto the cluster he has in the cave and mum looks like she's ready and waiting to spawn again in a nearby cave!!

Day 3 and no losses today thankfully still 2 in fry saver and dads still got his cluster in cave. now my plan is to let eggs hatch (if they do)and then when the fry are about 48 hours old move them all to the fry saver if all goes well that is.im going to do this because then i can make sure they get regular food and also dad and mum might get back together in cave as shes looking like shes ready for round 2.do you all think this is a good move or not as its only my first thought always ready to listen to more advice which would make me change my plan.:dk:

Hi, Well done on the spawning. It is a matter of personal preference whether you leave the fry were they are or not, personally I would leave them were they are and make sure there were more caves in the tank, if they want to breed again he might just move to another cave (thats what my L144 male does). If they are doing OK were they are and you move them and something happens to them in the fry saver you will not forgive yourself, if you leave them and something happens then that is nature and not caused by you.
As I say, this is just my personal view.

Day 5 and ive lost another egg in fry saver it just went a cloudy white and broke down into bits:cry: but good news on the other egg i have in the fry saver its now a little wriggler!!:woohoo: so im hoping the cluster of eggs dad has in his cave are also wriggling around by now as i dont want to disturb him or the cave by trying to find out.cant believe how tiny the little one in the fry saver is it just looks like all tail and two eyes at the start of it.really chuffed with my first ever plec fry cant wait to see the rest that are in the cave.:clap:thanks for all the comments so far really nice to hear your thoughts.

hi, maybe dad knew a couple of the eggs were no good so kicked them out. good you have one survived as allows you to watch it grow.
hope his are doing good too. you will know in a few more days!
well done

a lot of people say dont shine the torch in... but i do all the time and have had no real problems associated with doing this....

once a day i shine the torch in all the caves in all the tanks to see whats happening... fish are probably so used to it now it doesnt bother them....

if im going the raid the eggs i like to do it on day 3... and sometimes i like to get fry from the cave before they come outand go all over your tank....

having a nice tight fitting cave is much more important in my view!

anyhow good luck with your new fry...
i've found the 333 fry the easiest to raise and are the toughest fry of all the L's i have bred....

thanks:thumbup:well the fry are now 3 days old and the one little chap i have in the fry saver is about 1cm in size now still dont know how many if any are in dads cave but like irene said i should find out soon enough.cant wait to find out how many their is.im not going to get them out just yet i think i will give it a few more days as i really cant see them trying to come out on their own into the main tank until theyve used their egg sacks up which is nice that ive got one in the fry saver cause i can see him/her grow and that gives me a good indication on the others in dads cave.when the egg sack is nearlly used up then i will put remaining ones in dads cave into the fry saver as their going to be easier to catch that way rather than free swimming in main tank.still doing my 10% wc daily and the little chap in the fry saver looks healthy ,he/she is already showing yellow and black markings on its head and the rest is still a clear body, can see the fins and all looks great.thanks again everyone for their comments keep them coming and ill keep updating their progress cheers simon.
