All assigned numbers: L407
Name: Acanthicus sp. aff. hysticx " Rio Branco "
Location: Branco River, Boa Vista Roraima, Takutu River, Brasil
Photos:
Appearance: These plecos dramatically change colour and dots from juvenile stage to adults. The adults have large armour plated scales on their forehead and odontel growth all over the body
Compatibility: These are some of the largest plecos available on the market. Thus they need a lot of hidding spots and plenty of room to feel confortable. This species can be very aggressive, especially due to its size. It will defend its territory against other bottom dwellers or similar looking plecos. Please only keep these if you have very large tanks.
Sexing and Breeding: Males are slimmer and have extreme more odontodel growth on all fins, rays and pectorals. Females are more rounded
Diet: An Omnivore that leans towards a meatier diet, so foods like frozen bloodworm, Carnivore pellets, Earthworm sticks, Tetra Prima should be provided It doesnt hurt to also introduce some veg once in a while to their diet. As a warning , plants will be eaten .
Water parameters: Temp 25 - 29C , PH 5.5 - 7.5 . Dimmed lights and a good amount of hiding places. This fish requires a lot of personal space due to its aggressive territorial behaviour. Additional oxygen is prefered and a current through the tank. Due to high protein diet you require a good filtration system
Max Size: 120cm / 47 "
Bred by: We presume not achieved by a PP member so far, as we have not received any reports
