when mature, males will get very "hairy", especially toward the back end

Hi Denis,
I have answered in the other thread where you ask the same question....
they are very hard to sex. the body and head shape is very slightly different when viewed from above, but quite hard to see. when they are sexually mature the male will have more hair on his body than the female. you can see how hairy his lower body is in the pic in the breeding article , but he only gets all this hair when he is ready to breed. The female has less hair.

its going to he a hard job picking them out but i will send pics when i get the fish...

when i am trying to pick them out 2 males maybe 4 females. Would that sound right

If its a good size tank then that ratio sounds good.

If its a small tank dont get 2 males, they can fight.

there ventral fins on the male are more point at the end of the fin and the female is more rounder .and this you can only see at mature age .

thanks for the hints, the fish are 3 inches, cycling a tank now 2 weeks to make sure all is ok, but will probably be 2-3 years for them to reach maturity

if they are three inches not including tail, they may not need 2-3 years.
