hi i both wanted to tell you plus find out about females picking caves not males !
well i have 2 females with my male and he is bouncing from one cave to the other!

for example last batch close to a 100 large female he had her fry in breams cave and every time he is with fry its hers!

smaller female batch of 30-50? every time in log ?

im thinkoing that when he knows the smaller one is ready he waits for her in the log but when the big female is ready he waits for her in the slate cave ?

this is all true has this ever happened to another person?

reson is i hear people saying sell male with his cave (like its his pick and he will breed in it only ?) but i dont think males care

i would like to hear peoples opinions on this cause:dk: i could be nuts:wb::wb:

Males can find a cave that is perfect for them or keep trying every one.
Just like most humans always looking for the best

lol, The female generally wanders into a cave before she is trapped (hence the resistance) the female will more than likely be prepared to breed but not on her terms.
The female and male like any creature will find what is comfortable and safe, often leading to the selected cave. An experienced male will trap anything anywhere but in first timers the female would almost certainly have to enter the "shy" males cave before he would attempt a trapping. What you are suggesting would have to be studied on first timers or wild populations to insure that the safety of an aquarium doesn't effect the results due to over confidence.
In the case where a first time female refuses to use another cave an experienced male would not hesitate (in most circumstances) to take her cave. As much as it is said that the female initiates the courting my understanding is that it is more so the male, due to the struggle the female puts up in order to leave the cave this would suggest (if it is not the courting ritual itself) that the female had more or less wandered in un-expectant of what was to come.

well my L104 had the same problem!! macvsog23 has got a good point. they wont stay in one cave until they choose a suitable cave. at one point my male L104 and male pep took turns using one cave with no fighting even though there where heaps of caves all over the place. just keep adding more different kind of caves and wait and see

well from my breeding experience with both coomon Bn and marbled BN the male does not chase or trap the female.
he chooses a cave and sets up territory there.
when she is ready she knows exactly what she is doing as she has to persuade him to let her in the cave. she does this by going up and down over the entrance and showing him her belly so he knows its a gravid female coming to see him rather than another male after his cave. eventually, and this may take a couple of hours, he will let her in to lay. I have a video of this somewhere i will try and find it.
