Ok,

i know nothing of breeding plecos,

one of my male BNs have been fighting with my 7" Gibbicep for the log space, didnt think anything of it, picked up the log today to clean under it, and felt something squigy, looked and a mass off Orange eggs!

are they meant to be orange?
are they ok to stay in my main tank untill they hatch?
when should i move them if i should?
i have shrimp only (cherry red) planted tank (30ltr) and a breeders net i use to seperate new guppies. would any of these be ok to grow on the baby BNs?

i do have a spare small tank but no mature filter?
what should i do, im panicking lol

1 yep
2 depends if u have any fish that will eat them, if the gibbicep is still annoying the BN
3 personally I don't try to move the fry until there about 2.5cm but it's up to u if u were going to move them I would wait till they have nearly lost their egg sack
4 i reckon the shrimp tank is a good idea if u do move them

Thanks for the reply!

Ill monitor them closely and see how they get on, hopefully the Gibbi will leave alone and also the other male BNs too

Congrats on the news, I would avoid using the breeding net as i have done so in the past and lost fry when they attempted to squeeze through the small holes and got stuck half way :).

If the eggs havent hatched yet and the temps and ph are about the same in the cherry shrimp tank that would be a great spot to move the eggs to. The cherry shrimp will groom the eggs and eat any of the infertile/fungussy ones.

Easier moving eggs than it is to move fry.

Thanks bren. Ill keep that in mind for future, unfortunately i cant get get to most of the eggs as the are in like a crevice in the wood and the log is too large to fit into the shrimp tank.

How long does it take from eggs being laid to hatching to fry swimming out?

And would the best way to catch them be netting?

Finially should i put some sort of net covering on my external inlet? or will they be OK do you reckon?

Thanks all

I had fry sucked into my liquid power filter when i first bred them found like 4 fry dead in there. When i got fry in the tank i use the aqua one carbon bags and put them over my filter intake to prevent any getting sucked up

as does the foot of the missus's tights cut off and held inplace with an elastic band.

the only downside is the resultant wrath of the woman who's clothes just got molested...expecially when its an expensive pair of pure silk ones :)

I actually brought well had mhy fiancee buy a cheap pair of pantyhose for that reason, i use more then the foot tho and just wrap it around and elastic band it, Is working great on my liquid power filter at the moment

Ok when they started swimming they left the log and got ate straight away!!!! They are a few still in the log and the egg sack almost gone, should I move the entire log into a tank I have setup ready?, and let them swim out and replace log in main aquarium after they left? will doing this stop my male from breding in future? What should I do, just leaving them in main aquarium will mean certain death by eaten?

If his still in the log it wont necessarily stop him from breeding, he might just get a little upset and put off the mood lol but it is very unlikely.

put the log with the fry in it in a fish bag with the tanks water and slowly acclimatise it with the new tanks water rather then just dropping them in.
