Good news,

I really love apistos already it awesome to watch there behaviour!

I'm was thinking about getting tank mates in a couple of weeks, My local store has Pencil fish and C. Metae, both have caught my eye, would these make good tankmates? (one or the other not both)

Hi all,
Pencils are good dithers, but usually Cories tend to get beaten up. Having said that I've "stored" some C. pygmaeus in with a pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides and these have been fine. In fact the Apistogramma's totally ignore them, possibly because they look and behave a bit like Apisto fry?

If the Pencils are Golden or Beckford's Pencil (N. beckfordii)? they are less good (big, not so surface orientated), all the rest (N. eques, marginatus etc.) are fine. Black Neon Tetras are good cheap dithers/target fish, that do well in the same conditions as Apistogramma, and they will really colour up in soft water.

cheers Darrel

Thanks for that information. I could always get the pencils as dithers and then use my other 60Ltr tank as a cory tank :)
