Thanks guys! I was thinking L91... The markings on the fins look just like a L91 except they are white... not really sure what it is...

Id be inclined to go with macvsog23, from what ive read the L263 is pretty much the same as the L264 but has a few differences.

A species very similar to the Sultan Pleco is Leporacanthicus sp. L263. This species however is found in a different section of the Rio Tapajós river, has less black spots and has a more caramel-grey coloration.
L264

L263

lol hopefully a 263, then we can have more pics for our profile.:D

i've had a 263, looked absolutely nothing like yours, my one is one of the pics on pc.
to be honest mate, i'm stumped, it has the bands of the 91 with the general look of 264, if i had to say one or the other, i'd say it was a very pretty 264

I think you can rule out L91. How true to life are those colours in the pic? Im leaning slightly towards L263 now as they are " browner" than sultans which are a deep grey. And having had L263, L264 and currently L91's i would say L263 but thats only going by the colouration of it in the photo. Could well be that it is slightly different in real life.

This photo is the most accurate.

Photo colors are pretty true to real life. The body is slightly darker in coloration.
I'll try and get some more pics now that he is settled in. Thanks for the help!

Thanks Ralf. I've been out of town for the last week, sorry for the late response. Can't open the link on my work computer, I'll have to check it out when I get home. Kind of hope it's not a hybrid... the lfs I purchased him at has no idea what a catch locality is... so who knows.

Just a point on Hybrids

A hybrid will happen in nature

In fact I am sure over 70% of the imported Plecos that have been hard to ID are natural Hybrids.

after all man is a hybrid
