New L168's

Hey peeps :hi:

Picked these 3 L168's up yesterday, 1 male and 2 female.





Chuffed to bits with them and there settling in nicely. Been looking around on the internet and I can't find much info on the breeding behaviour. Since there similar to the L134's would they breed in the same way as in reacting to water changes and temperature?.

Cheers bigbird, I managed to get in translated but wasn't too much info on breeding.

I have bred L-168's plenty of times and been very successful...they seen to breed in acid water, i think mine was around 6.5ph with 1 external canister filter and 1 powerhead placed near the top of the tank, they do like a strong current, mine have never bred in pipes always under wood even thou i do have pipes in my tank they never go near them so i suggest plenty of wood but i have heard they will breed in pipes but mine never have, these fish are very secretive as they mature, so don't be surprised you don't see them when they are adults...i hope this helps abit...and feel free to ask any questions on breeding these fish...thanks :thumbup:

Dekeyseria / Zonancistrus brachyurus (L 168) breeds at very low pH: ~ 4.5 to 5.0
You need stone columns instead caves.

Thanks for the info guys. I have plenty of bogwood to cut into caves if that would work?.
How could I get the ph that low without sudden changes as we have hard water up my way?.

Hi,

... my L168 gone never in correct caves. Put a few caves in and look what they do.

The lowering of the hardness is not the real problem. But with the hardness falls also the pH.
Too much at a time can be dangerous. Do it step by step.
Regularly check the pH.
