Hi all,
Intrepidmax is right about the Salmon eggs, having said that they are probably more demanding of the correct water conditions than even the most difficult Plec, having a very high oxygen demand, and coming from very clean water, low in dissolved salts. I'm not sure about darkness for Plecs, Salmon spawn in gravel redds, where the gravel is coarse enough to allow oxygen and water to flow through, but also deep enough to be dark. When I was growing up we used to go and watch the salmon spawning in the Wye (nr Hay on Wye) and they have quite a vigorous dig into the gravel, sadly they are all gone now as the silt from potato farming (it was all beef when I was a boy) has destroyed the redds.
cheers Darrel
