hey everyone i have a few questions that i need a hand with if anyone can help.
1).
i have 3 peppermint bristlenose trios in a 3x15x18 tank, in everyones opinion is that tank too small?
2).
in your experience do pep bn breed better in colonys or trios?
3).
do you raise the fry with the adults, in a saver or in another tank?
4).
and can royal whiptails be kept and breed in the same tank with no interference in eithers breeding?

sorry for all of the questions i have looked but here so much conflicitng things.

Firstly, tank size sounds good to me :) I have heard that the fry can be raised with the parents or in a saver like you have mentioned.
Also I would not think there would be any problems with the royal whiptails because they will be spawning on the glass/leaves of plants while the peps will be in the caves :)

Good luck!

I have not personally bred pep bns but have bred other plecs.

ok thanks for the help,
so i am guessing that there is no chance of breeding them in the tank that they are in together then?

Hi There, My thoughts
1. Size of tank fine, Three trios in that tank for breeding challenging though. Make sure you have enough caves for the Males, as the Males can be agressive to each other (as i have lost a couple of males though experience)
2. My preference only, is to keep them in Trios
3. Totally up to you. I have done both, the key to reduce your mortality is to maintain good water quality.
4. Royal whips will not affect breeding.

Good luck
