Sadly I am off to work in my LFS so a full report later.
After I have cleaned my pants up from wetting myself with excitement.

At around 10:00 hrs today I was doing my usual daily fish house routine cleaning water changes ECT.
I have a tank with
5 x Lamontichthys llanero
2 x Loricaria sp. `Rio Atabapo
2 x Sturisoma Sp
2 x Loricaria simillima.

I noticed a mass of eggs on the sand.

This mass of eggs was around 2” long by ½” wide and a singular layer so not a clump.

Of the 5 candidates for parent hood I can eliminate the Sturisoma Sp the female is far to small and young along with they lay in lines on the glass, the Loricaria sp. `Rio Atabapofor the size reason, and the Loricaria simillima along with the Loricaria sp. `Rio Atabapofor are lip brooders so I would expect a ball of eggs not a flat mass.

Of the Lamontichthys llanero two were quite “fat” and now only one is.

I have the eggs in a fry saver and will see how it goes.
I was talking to some who said the eggs of Lamontichthys llanero are not very adhesive and when he was collecting wild specimens he found lots of eggs were removed from the laying site by strong currents.

I have observed several attempts to clean a area on a upright log in the tank so I can only assume that they were deposited on this log and were washed off by the current in the tank.

Tank details 3 foot x 18” wide x 20” deep
Filters
1 x Eheim 2328 running a spray bar and a grogg glass sump
1 x Eheim Aquaball
1 x Eheim Power head running a spray bar

Kh 5 to 6
PH 7.0
Nitrite under 10 PPM
TDS 185 to 195
Daily water changes of RO and HMA mix at a TDS of 200.
Plants 3 post of assorted plants

Well the ID of the parents is now pretty well established.
The Lamontichthys llanero are 90% not the parents, I now suspect Loricaria simillima,

The eggs are quite strange and I attempted to separate the eggs as some were showing signs of fungus, it was impossible they are like elastic or rubber.
Still in a trap and no signs of fungus spreading.

I am moving the Loricaria simillima to a separate tank this week end.
If any one has spawned these I would love to hear how they carry the eggs, lay them ect.

i have had some eggs from some lip brooders before and found them in a perfectly flat group as if they'd be laid on glass then carefully taken off...

i lost the first lot to fungus... second lot i used a fair bit of meth blue and changed the water twice a day to prevent fungusing...

they seem to take a lot longer than b/n or pleco eggs to hatch also....

around 2-3 weeks... eggs will change colour and go orange then brown then black - then hatch...

eggs are almost pleco sized too... well like 333,66 eggs

hope that helps matey!!!

goodluck :woohoo:

Did the fry feed straight away after hatching?

Did you see the spawning?

I am hoping to get the male to brood next time.

na both times happened in the early hours of the morning i suspect....i didnt see nothin!!!

just found the eggs on the bottom of the tank...

its funny as they spawned twice in a community tank but as soon as i gave them their own tank they done nothing... so i've added some cories and a pair of royal whips and a couple apple snails.... fingers crossed they start again...

with the eggs once they hatched up into fry they still have an egg sac... when it was used up i dropped them into a frysaver and started feeding b/brine... they started eating within half a day....
