Location: South America: Rio Marañon, Rio Ucayali, Rio Caquetá and upper Rio Amazonas drainages of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

Appearance:
As with other Pterygoplichthys, should have more than 10 rays in the dorsal fin.

Sexing most likely by inspecting the genital papillae

Diet:
This omnivorous and unproblematic fish eats just about anything: vegetables (cucumber, egg plant/aubergine, zucchini, lettuce, peas, preboiled spinach), any type of prepared food that reaches the bottom (pellets), meaty foods such as shrimp, mussels and pieces of fish fillet, and in many cases even carrion.
In many cases, algae (especially soft brown) will be eaten immediately, and lots of people keep this fish to 'de-algaefy' their tank..
