Hi all,
This is why I prefer conductivity to pH as a measure, although it might not initially seem as useful. pH meters should be calibrated every time you use them (to pH4 and pH7), you need to turn them on 5 minutes before you use them, the electrode needs to be stored appropriately etc. but conductivity meters don't need any of this, just turn it on, dip it in and take the reading.
Cant find the 448ppm/700 miroS, but from Ebay UK

I would calibrate it now, but that is the great thing about conductivity and conductivity meters, the meters are really simple and robust, and you only need to calibrate them very occasionally, my suspicion would be that it won't be far wrong. In your opinion should I need to calibrate my hand held TDS meter regularly? I've had this one about 5 years now and never calibrated it.

You should be able to find 448 ppm TDS or 1411 microS calibration solution (0.01 M KCl) via Ebay etc.Making that calibration solution seems like a lot of faffing about,
