how does this work then?
seen it in my LFS but not to sure about adding more stuff to the tank.
and cant a daily vac and less food be better for the tank and fish :dk:
Its purely a diff type of bacteria that feeds on sludge build up...I sell a lot of it to my offshore oil workers that were finding their filters almost stopped by the time they returned ashore, mainly due to overfeeding by their partners...By adding this product we found that the sponges and pipework stayed cleaner and sludge free for much longer.

Hey BigBird, thanks for the help.
Do I need to do anything specific about that beneficial bacteria that I hear about all the time? So I just take the filter off the tank and scrub it out with plain RO water?

Oh you lucky duck! Tape it for us?

In regards to wc and algae, I have recently found scooping the water from the top of the tank removes the phosphates rather similarly to a salt water skimmer. :)

I tested to day before my water change:
Ammonia test kit for NH3 NH4: yellow .25
GH 4 drops
KH 3 drops
Ph 7.5
NO2 <.3
Temp: 75' F

But After you see how the chemistry is - can I be told if I clean the filter or not?
Hi I have just picked this up so if it has been covered sorry
your Kh is way to low get it up to around 6 to 7
The trace of ammonia to me speaks of over feeding. this is turning to protin and the bacteria are loving it in the filter sadly its an-aerobic not aerobic so the filter is just not working.

As most people have said it is the feeding we all tend to over feed try once a week and 2 or 3 water changes every week for the next 6 or 7 weeks.
Iwould say don't clean the filter just remove as much gunk as you can by washing in tank water.

macvsog23, Brengun, D-MAC, bigbird,

Thanks alot for all the help.

My hardness is because the water is softened before goes thru the RO.

I'll try to "scoop" the top water - that should be interesting....

My barbs will think they have become orphaned :( but they get less food!

and I will WC and Vac more, too.

P.S. The Endeavor went off without a hitch! Only one more lift off to go.
Sorry my camera can't focus on it. Just got a pic of the trail.
Amazing thing is we don't hear the engine roar for about 3-4 minutes after it is up!

With your R/O I would add some to re mineralization it to get the Kh up your going to have problems with R/O being used neat.

some fish can last for weeks with no food, so do not worry to much.
With the filter, remove the grime and just quickly wash off the otherstuff, but not too much. add some live bacteria and away you go. keep us up to date and dont be tempted to feed too much. cheers jk
