Hello pleco friends,
Another year has passed. It's time for a review.
Brazil – Positive List
The list prepared at the beginning of 2012, current list is still valid.
In addition, the threat of existence for various plecos was examined. In particular, this also took account of the threat posed by newly constructed, new and planned hydroelectric power stations. In accordance with the IUCN criterias various plecos have been assigned to the endangerd categories, for example: Scobinancistrus aureatus (L 14), Peckoltia compta (L 134), Ancistomus snethlageae (L 141/L 215), Leporacanthicus joselimai (L 264). Even if these plecos are still to be found on the positive list, these can not be exported currently. Look also "No positive list from Brazil".
News in the systematics
In the year 2016 the two genera
and 26 pleco species were described:
Compared with 2015 in the systematics of plecos again something more done.
Offspring
Particularly noteworthy offspring are certainly this year:
In addition, there is still a vague information on the reproduction of Pseudacanthicus sp. "L 273".
Meetings in Germany
In April the "Treffen der Mecklenburger Welsfreunde" took place and in October the "22.Treffen der Chemnitzer Welsfans".
Offers of plecos in Germany
On German stocklists I could discover 2016 251 pleco species / forms. these are a few more than last year. However, I also noticed that on public stocklists of wholesale traders were often more species listed than on corresponding dealer stocklists.
The trend also seems to be that the available species are listed on the stock lists much longer than in previous years.
Of the plecos available in 2016, different species / forms have not yet been reproduced: these. Our task for 2017.
To further South American catfishes
Also new were described:
