They have now graduated to their permanent 6ft tank woohoo! I hope they like it.
They most all grew 1/2cm in the 5weeks in their wider 4ft so I am hoping the 6ft will suit them even better. They certainly are fat and there was a severe lack of cherry shrimp and young endlers in their old tank. The new 6ft is chockers full of them so chow down.
I took overhead pics again, compared them with pics from last month and I think I may have sexed them as 5f/4m. There is a huge size range of 4cm between them all.
1. 6.5cm female

2. 8.0cm male

3. 7.5cm male

4. 9.0cm male

5. 9.5cm female

6. 9.0cm female

7.8.9. 6.0cmM,7.5cmF,8cmF

Ok just a small tip from my german breeding friends, they state these Vamps for breeding prefer cave and log entrances with a side entrance only. also they like fast flow water, need a substrate and additional oxygen. This in case you did not know. cheers jk
these guys were bred in a 45cm glass bottom cube with 1 male 3 girls and a single front entranced cave made to suit the males size.... no extra oxygen or water flow but spawned only in summer when water was 30 degrees plus... ph was 7 to 7.5 roughly.... started spawning when male was approx 13cm and females 2cm their junior....

not too far away bren.... i have a group of 9 fish also - i am amazed when its feeding time... they arent shy coming out to hoover up bloodworms and brine shrimp..... and cherry shrimp dont last the night if i put some in......

Is that where all my cherry shrimp went? It should have been crawling with them by now but I rarely see one.
Come to think of it, the endlers don't seem to be exactly filling out the 6ft tank either. Maybe the vamps hunt them at night in the dark?

I am loathe to disturb them much as everyone seems to have their own spots claimed. Haven't seen any dramas with them yet.

keep a eye out when they get ready to start breeding. I have a friend who bred them and when the male was ready he killed or chased other males till they jumped out of the tank.
