Yeah saw a thread on MFK where a guy had done just that.

I guess as long as I use the Eheim fitted sponge inbetween bioballs/ceramics/whatever I use then it will all be fine.

I have one ecco in each tank they have been running for years with no problems
They are not the main filtration tho as the flow is a bit low, teratec for that

You have a Eheim on the same tank as a Tetratec?

Is exactly the mix i'll be running by the end of the weekend :)

Other way round though, my Tetratec is at its limit now.

IME Tetratec have been good, FF is running my old one still on his main tank, that is 8+ years old now with only one leak for him. The current one has not missed a beat in 4 years, still on original media.

Eheim are the daddies, Tetratec are my favourite son..

Hi all,
It was in running the Classic series that made me try to avoid cleaning it and use supplemental filters & prefilters. I'd recommend getting the in-line disconnects, makes it easier to reprime if necessary.
Another vote for the Classics, all of mine were 2nd hand so have various bits missing. I like a double tap on the intake side, with a filter sponge over the inlet (I DIY them, there is a thread somewhere <http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?p=92248&highlight=diy+sponge#post92248%22>), but Eheim make a nice canister with sponges), on the outlet side you can get by with no tap or a single tap if you want to economise. I tend not to use any of the sponges, and just 1/2 fill the body with ceramic rings, if you have the bottom stand you can use it, or just cut some plastic to shape, I#ve got the bottom of a plastic plant pot as a stand for the ceramic rings in one filter and that works fine.

I like the Eheim Venturi diffuser, but either the spray bar or a swan neck is fine, again you can DIY them. The inlet and outlet sets you can buy are good as well, but a bit pricey.

cheers Darrel

I use a pro 3 2073 and a fluval U4 in my Juwel Trigon 190 Zebra Pleco tank and the Pro 3 2071 with Fluval U2 in my Juwel Rio 125 Zebra Pleco tank and have had no issues, some say the pro 3's leak but so far I have had no problems thankfully :)

I have an eheim pro something or other, does 1000lph and its great although I have never run it in a tank with heavy debris from panaques or anything. If I had just a couple of tanks I probably would consider more of them but the wattage is higher and they are more expensive than the classic 2217.

Most of my tanks now have 2213, 2215 or 2217 classics on them. For most I have tossed out the wool filter and opted for a second sponge filter as they don't get clogged with that slimey sort of mulm the wool ones can get.

After finding numerous shrimp and endler guppy fry in the canisters, I now cover the intakes with a coarse sponge as well. It usually doesn't need rinsing much as the particles pass through but it does stop the fry from getting into the canister.

Arrgh, shop sold the last 2217 last night, only one he has left is 2250 which is definitely overkill!

Won't get another delivery until Sat or Sun so that's tonight shopping trip out the window

2217 installed and running.

Ceramic, sponge, Substrat, sponge, bioballs, floss, Purigen in that order.

Tank is like a river, I don't need the tetratec in it to be fair now, I'll remove in couple of months once the Eheim is colonised.

Slight rescape done as well, will post a photo once its settled.

Another happy Eheim customer, thanks for all replies :)

:D

know what you mean but the Tetratec has been OK
I do turn the taps off take the whole top of for maintenance and dont use the quick disconnect fitting
the flow rate through mine now is shocking... the pipes need a good clean I think.

Pretty sure I will bin it completely now the Eheim is up and running.

Keep if for a spare or maybe flog it

Agree always handy to have a spare
I once broke the impellor shaft on a powerhead cleaning it luckily I had an old powerhead spare
I moved what media I could from the Tetra to Eheim this morning.

Issue with the Tetra was the pipes, those have been cleaned and the whole thing stripped and deep cleaned and reinstalled in tank.

I have both ins and both outs hidden behind the wood, very tidy install, only just all fits.

Both running flat out now, both with Purigen in, tank looks absolutely crystal with the added bonus of looking virtually equipment free.

Might stop fiddling now!
