Update: L134 Female Lays eggs on 1 week old fry!
Well last week I had a female trapping a male in what turned out to be nothing... BUT
There was a big storm yesterday so I took the chance to do a 30% water change and a 1° INCREASE IN TEMP FROM 26-27°C. The fish had been pretty active and the females look particularly plump so I thought one of the other pairs might do their thing... timing was good.
Somehow a female has made her way past the male guarding his fry and looks like she wants to lay her eggs. These fry hatched exactly 7 days ago.
Update (17/09/2010): This morning I had a peek with the torch & discovered the male sitting on a new bunch of eggs with the fry from the previous spawn happily sitting nearby. The male looks like he's holding the eggs about 20mm from the end of the cave, and the babies from spawn 1 are all at the end.
The male looks quite off-colour so I hope he's got enough energy to take care of this second lot as he's already gone without food for a few weeks. I might consider uplifting the fry when they've all hatched.
The male is also doing his usual quivering at the entrance of the cave.
Water must be good
Anyone seen this before?
