All of the 'Royals' (P. nigrolineatus/armbrusteri/titan etc) get larger than that. But it's not like they'll suddenly grow massive and overburden you. You could try P. bathyphilus aka 'Papa Panaque/L090' I haven't seen/heard a wiff of one much over 30cm, or the Panaque 'Arabesque/L425' that Pier Aquatics have.Just caught up with your pics Matt.. and made the mistake of showing the missus..
Now she wants to add a Royal. We had one a long time agoe and it was awesome..
Are there any that stop at 10-12"??
I've had my wavering moments but they still have a hold on me and I've still got big ambitions with them. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the shops again, shouldn't be too long now.Hi matt, nice to see your still gripped by the panaque/royal bug good and hard! There a good looking bunch you must be proud .
I knew as much but hoped something new had come to light in the near 20 years since I had my last one..All of the 'Royals' (P. nigrolineatus/armbrusteri/titan etc) get larger than that. But it's not like they'll suddenly grow massive and overburden you..
I have a Soniae, Green Phantom and Leopard Cactus in the tank too..You could also try Hypostomus cochliodon/soniae as they are pretty similar to Panaque.
Yeah I still have old warty, he is looking like an old man now days compared to his younger identical brother, Im not sure I ever posted a pic of him so I will dust off the camera. Im looking to move a couple of plecs on to ease the load on my filters, they have all grown big and fat over the last 2 years lol. If you know any Panaque freaks that are looking for a new big center piece send um my way?!I've had my wavering moments but they still have a hold on me and I've still got big ambitions with them. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the shops again, shouldn't be too long now.
How are yours doing? Do you still have the L027 Araguaia's/Goldine?
Off the top of my head I don't know but I looked through my photobucket and found the answer. Yes, striped when small 5-8cm and I can't find any recent ones but I'll try to get some of him now.Another question. I saw pics of your Tocantins when it was younger. I think it had a stripped belly? If it did was it always like that or did it change from an odd swirly pattern?
Welcome to the mess! I'm glad I've encouraged someone else to take the plunge. My first Royal was about 8cm and quickly followed by 3 other smaller ones and then a big 22cm fella that arrived by post. And then another ten or so later I got my 40cm beast. This thread made me go out and buy a 9.5 inch Royal that was for sale in my LFS on Saturday pics coming soon never had a big Panaque before they are something else!!
Just heard from the importes that currently the ibama have ban to catch anything from the river where L27 Thunder is locatedSome pics from today of my Panaque armbrusteri (I think it is anyway), including a belly shot for Jackson. I'm glad you prompted me because I saw that he was a bit too skinny for my liking. Which makes me think I need to treat for parasites/worms since he eats/poos loads.
