Last week I noticed that one of a group of 10 Hypans I brought in the summer was fanning in a cave.
These fish were sold as L066, I was positive they were not L066 so paid £40 each for them.
Now I have eggs and the male is less than 3†so not L066.
They look like L173 to me.

Once the eggs are free swimming I will get the fish out and take some photos, right now I don’t want to cause the male to reject the eggs.

I snapped a few photos but bad light and the fact they are hiding don’t show the fish well.

In the house of gee
lol.

I have seen these fish tonight and Bobs camera skills are gash as the photos really dont do them justice. The interesting thing about these fish are that they are know more than 3"tl and IMO they arent L66. The fish in question came from glaser Germany. As for L173.........This to me used to be basically like a Zeb with wavy lines which I believe is now L98 but??????? Lol who really cares:D

Anyway IF the L173 that came from Glaser last year are infact the real L173 then these things look identical.

Note to Macvosg23:
You have that ******* great camera with all the ******* gadets us mere mortals can only dream about and you produce shoddy photo,s like the ones above????

Cheers

The origins and the exact identities of these fish are totally suspect, I hope to visit the seller and extract the true origins of these fish.

I personally thought that they were tank breed and are just an assortment of “Scribble†Plecos.
They look exactly the same as the L173,s that were being imported by a few people last year.

Following a good look this morning and a bit of gentle poking it would look like I have two lots of eggs as a male in a separate cave is fanning like crazy.

I am pretty confident of the ID now as I have looked at the L173, s that Joe had and they look the same.

So I now have a total of 10 fish with two spawns.

I will be selling some fish soon to make room for the extra fry.
So get your bids in folks.
What has challenged me is the size of the fish, when I brought them I was convinced they would not be adults for years.
Once they are free swimming I will hook the adults out and take some photos.

I have had a bit of a dig about in the tank and seem to have 4 males in caves at 2 have eggs the remaining 2 may have eggs.

The 6 remaining fish are defiantly the same fish so I am sticking with L173 for now.

I am sure that 4 of them are females and the remaining two may be female.

Because of the large amount of fish and the small amount of space in the near future I will be selling some of these fish as sexed pairs.
If any one is interested please let me know
I have added a few photos I am sure the Geeman will make disparaging comments about them.

Congratulations on the mass spawning! could these be the tank full of fish you had from gloucester?

Yes indeed and at A very good price

I am checking the web like crazy and so far L173 looks the best bet
at under 3" and spawning they are not L066 as sold.
I knew they were some thing odd when I first saw them.
